A Quick Start Guide to Creating a Learning Element Online
- Login at http://CGLearner.com - signing up is free. Create your profile.
- Take the ‘Create Learning Element’ tab and enter the general information about your Learning Element.
- Take the ‘Focus’ link to describe the purposes of the Learning Element; also link to a learning standard and set copyright.
- Take the ‘Objectives’ tab and define the objectives of the Learning Element, selecting from Experiential Objectives, Conceptual Objectives, Analytical Objectives and Applied Objectives.
- Take the ‘Activities’ tab to create a sequence of learning activities, and classify each activity by the Knowledge Process involved:
- Take the ‘Assessment’ tab to describe how learner outcomes will be assessed.
- Take the ‘Pathways’ tab to suggest follow-on lessons or Learning Elements.
- Publish your Learning Element to the web, or create a PDF which can be printed out.
Experiencing the known: activities that bring in the students’ own experiences and existing knowledge.
Experiencing the new: activities that immerse students in new experiences or information.
Conceptualising by naming: activities that get students to group and classify things, form concepts and define terms.
Conceptualising with theory: activities in which students tie concepts together into generalisations or map the interconnections between concepts.
Analysing functionally: activities which explore cause, effects, relationships and functions.
Analysing critically: activities which explore motives, purposes and interests.
Applying appropriately: activities which require application of knowledge to actual problems and real world situations.
Applying creatively: activities which require the transfer of knowledge to new situations and different contexts.
